Sales Order Promising in Business Central

A company should give its customers accurate details on the delivery of sales orders and also correctly estimate the receipt date of purchase and transfer orders. In Dynamics 365 Business Central, this functionality is known as Order Promising. Based on the expected availability dates for an item, the sales order shipment and delivery dates are calculated. These dates can be promised to the customer, or, if the customer requests a specific date, Business Central assesses whether the date is realistic.

Order Promising Functions

Stockout Warning

It will display the earliest availability date by checking the inventory and outstanding production, purchase, assembly, transfer, or sales return order. If there are no outstanding tasks, then the earliest availability date will be blank. At this point, either the “Available to Promise” or “Capable to Promise” functionality is utilized to calculate an availability date.

Available to Promise (ATP)

This functionality calculates dates based on inventory availability. An availability check is done on the unreserved quantities in inventory or in planned productions, purchases, assembly orders, transfers, and sales returns. If the items are available, then the delivery date of the order is calculated.

Capable to Promise (CTP)

It is used if an item is not in the inventory and no supply orders are scheduled. The earliest availability date is calculated, considering the possibility of the item being produced, purchased, assembled, or transferred from another location.
